“The old tale goes that it was here that the siren Parthenope was washed up on the rocks of Megaride, itself bubbling with the lava violently hurled by the god Vesuvius at Pompei and Herculaneum. The earth was imbued with the emotions of the enamoured siren waiting for Odysseus, feelings which conquered Donna Lucia, the lady who wanted this house for herself in this symbolic place of love and fidelity, a shelter from human suffering.” The main section of Villa Lucia dates back to the end of the 1700s. It was the manor house of “I Molini”, an ancient country estate on the Sorrento peninsula. The initial structure has been modified over time. In particular, the old courtyard was attached to the house and, in the 50s, a swimming pool was built which still today preserves the charm of the period when it was designed. The old estate, “I Molini”, doesn’t exist anymore, having been broken up into many smaller properties, but Villa Lucia still preserves all the characteristics which make it distinctive: warm, tastefully decorated indoor spaces; delightfully relaxing corners of the garden/lemon grove, and… you can almost touch the island of Capri! Villa Lucia was, for many years, the summer residence of the d’Avalos princes. However, it’s only thanks to the care of the current owners that it has recovered its beauty and sparkle. The attentive and meticulous restoration has, in fact, renewed the villa’s period splendour. Indoors and outdoors are almost one and the same. The antique wrought-iron and glass doors, hand-forged by Sorrentine master craftsmen, create the feeling that there is no separation between indoor and outdoor living. Any time spent indoors is accompanied by the reflections on the pool’s surface, as well as the sweet scent of lemons. Similarly, the flavours from the kitchen will win over any book lover sitting in the shade of the centuries-old olive tree. There is complete continuity between the textile colours of the interior and exterior furnishings. Everything has been done in an attempt to create as much harmony as possible for every single little experience in this period house… Villa Lucia is spread out over two floors and an attic level, faces both the sun and the sea, and can accommodate up to 11 people. From the villa you will enjoy an amazing view of the sea, the Gulf of Naples, and the islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida. Villa Lucia covers a large area, both inside and out. It has a private swimming pool with a fascinating unique shape due to the historical period in which it was built. There are spacious terraces with sea views, and a gorgeous private garden. The villa is also fitted with air conditioning (in some bedrooms), heating, and Wi-Fi internet access. From the garden and the private parking area, walking the path alongside the lawn with the typical “Limoni di Massa”, and climbing about 16 steps, you reach the villa. You will not need a car in order to stay at Villa Lucia, but if you arrive by car, you will be able to park for free at the property (we don’t recommend large vehicles). Villa Lucia offers the opportunity to stay in a peaceful country house on the Sorrento coast, amongst the greenery and the lush orange, olive and lemon trees. The villa is about 200 metres from the centre of Massa Lubrense, where you’ll find restaurants, shops, and public transport. Massa Lubrense has a charmingly typical marina named “Marina della Lobra” where it’s possible to take some wonderful boat trips. The closest beach, Spiaggia di Marina di Puolo, is about 3 km from the villa. Sorrento is the most important tourist centre on the coast and is no more than 4 km away. From there it’s possible to take the ferry or hydrofoil to Capri and other islands on the Gulf of Naples, as well as Naples itself, Amalfi, Positano, and the other towns on the Amalfi Coast. You can easily get to the Amalfi side of the Sorrento Peninsula by car or by bus. In just half an hour you’ll arrive at Positano, travelling a road which, with each curve, reveals another glimpse of a truly breath-taking view, one of the most beautiful in the world. You can also reach the archaeological excavations of Pompei in about 1 hour by car from the villa or by taking the train from Sorrento. It’s also very easy to get to Caserta and its splendid palace. THE PRIVATE POOL measures around 23 square metres and varies in depth from 2 to 2.2 metres. The pool, characterised by its curving shape, is not suitable for children. The pool area is equipped with sun umbrellas, sun beds, and an outdoor shower with both hot and cold water. From here you’ll enjoy an amazing view of the surrounding greenery, the garden, and the sea. The pool is available from May to October. IN THE GARDEN you’ll find the centuries-old olive trees (one of which is particularly wonderful and impressive), orange trees, and, above all, the typical Massa lemons. The well-tended green lawn is the perfect place to sit and relax in the shade. THE TERRACE areas are divided into different sections, partly shaded by pergolas.
