When exploring Alentejo there is certainly much to see, from medieval castles, Roman ruins and Neolithic monuments, to Renaissance houses, this is a region with history carved in flesh and stone, a wonderful place to learn about the Portuguese culture. Archaeological investigations are in progress, so the Roman ruins are not yet fully open to the public. However, it is possible to visit the workshops of salting fish, baths, and the mausoleum that houses the "Rua da Princesa". At the southern edge of the peninsula is Comporta, a village of just over 1000 inhabitants, a land of vineyards and rice inserted between the plains of Alentejo and the Atlantic shores. You can visit the "Rice Museum" located in one of the old mills, see the threshing, winnowing and rice hulling and the cellars of the “Herdade Comporta”. Continuing further south, we arrive at Grândola, a peaceful town in the Alentejo, located 40 km south of Setubal and the mouth of the river Sado, in the plains of cork oaks. There are 45 km of white sandy beaches that stretch from Tróia to Melides.
