Its where people flock to see the famous conical roofs and whitewashed walls of the trulli that line a maze of upward-sloping streets. The area faces the modern town centre, so its ideally located for exploring both past and present Alberobello. Within a five-minute walk of your trullo is a wide choice of bars, restaurants and pizzerias for enjoying romantic evenings out. During the day, there are plenty of shops selling souvenirs, as well as more traditional crafts, to browse. Supermarkets offer the chance to stock up on essentials, with treats available at ice cream shops and bakeries. Martina Franca (15km) is another of the popular towns, and you can drive there in around 25 minutes. Here youll find an abundance of Baroque-era buildings, such as Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di San Martino. The Valle dItria boasts plenty of lush scenery to explore either by bike or on foot. One of the most spectacular sites tucked away in the olive grove and vineyard-dotted countryside is Grotte di Castellana (18km). These limestone caves are truly a sight to behold, with a huge network of underground landscapes to explore. The coast is also within easy reach, with the picturesque and sandy beaches of Torre Canne (32km) just over a 30-minute drive away.
