A Regional highlight is the beautiful town of Brantome (27km) and its Benedictine abbey, built by Charlemagne in 769. Here you can hire a canoe (book in advance) and enjoy this lovely stretch of the river. There is a busy outdoor market on Fridays. Near to Brantome is the "most beautiful village" of St-Jean-de Cole and also the attractive village of Bourdeilles.
