Just outside the sleepy country town of Campanet we came across what is, without exaggeration, one of the most appealing hideaway cottages we have ever discovered on Mallorca. Discretely tucked away in a wonderfully private location towards the end of an unmade country track, Es Mirador is a perfectly positioned, thoughtfully appointed and comfortably furnished property offering everything needed to provide the ideal holiday base. For honeymooners seeking a post-nuptial oasis of calm, or anyone simply seeking a restful, relaxing escape in what one might call the ‘real’ Mallorca. Both inside and out, attention to detail is impressive with comfort and convenience having clearly been given priority. Décor and equipment are of a very high standard, furnishings have been chosen with taste and care. Selected thoughtful touches include an extremely well appointed kitchen, hydro-massage shower in the bathroom and air conditioning in the open plan living area and bedroom. From the various spacious terraces that border the house, poolside and landscaped grounds, sweeping panoramic views can be savoured across the undulating Campanet Valley, a vision of pastoral perfection stretching as far as the pine clad foothills of the rugged Tramuntana Mountains. To the left hand side, Mallorca’s second highest peak, the Puig de Massanella (1365m), dominates the horizon, further enhancing what is already one of the most striking of backdrops. While this location is undoubtedly rural there are still good amenities very close at hand. Campanet (1.1km) is home to bakeries, minimarkets, a butcher, banks, several café/bars and a typical village market on Tuesday. There is a tennis court within 2.5km and three restaurants within a fifteen minute drive (the one at the boutique hotel Monnàber Nou being particularly well regarded). This area is also well known for its network of fascinating subterranean caves that are opened regularly for public visits and which, being of a lower profile than other similar island attractions, rarely become crowded. A little further afield, the beach at Playa de Muro is 16km, Pollença 19km and Port de Pollença with its sweeping sandy bay 26km. Palma can easily be reached on the (excellent) local train service which starts at Sa Pobla (6.5km) and wends its scenic way south, via Inca, to the island capital in about 55 minutes.
