Positioned on the southern coast, it has a lot of charm and has a relaxed feel, with an array of pretty gardens and the beautiful waterfront giving you lots of reasons to stay outside in the sun. Chief amongst Funchals landmarks is its 16th-century cathedral, Se. Take a look inside and upwards to see the magnificent wooden ceiling. You may also want to visit the vibrant farmers market which takes place in the town, with its array of fresh fruit, vegetables and colourful flowers – you are sure to find something you have never tried before. The cable car ride which takes you from the Old Town into the hills above is another must. Not only are the views spectacular, but they will take you in the direction of the Monte Palace Tropical Garden and the Botanical Gardens of Madeira, both of which are well worth a visit.
