The town sits next to Quarteira, roughly halfway along the southern coast of Portugal, with a big marina at the centre of it all. This yacht-filled area is also full of designer stores, bars and restaurants, giving it an upmarket but chilled feel. Vilamouras other big attraction is the wonderful beaches that line the coast. Praia da Quarteira and Praia da Falesia are both highly regarded and clean, with the latters rugged red cliffs and miles of sands making it a particular favourite. Golf is also a big draw for visitors. The numerous courses of Dom Pedro and the nearby Quinta do Lago golf resort should provide plenty of choice.
