Ravello is a small town and the best way to navigate its narrow alleys and maze of steps is on foot. You´ll want to pack comfortable shoes for climbing the stairs and walking on the cobblestone streets! It´s hard to get lost in Ravello since most paths lead to or from the main piazzas or streets. From the Piazza Vescovado there are lanes where you will find grocery shops, a small super market, etc..., restaurants and pizzerias. Amalfi and the beaches are just a bus-ride away (20 min.). The blue SITA buses leaving every hour at the entrance to the tunnel outside the Garden Hotel. For the ultimate enjoyment of local flavor, a Tuesday morning market takes place just below the picturesque central square which is also packed with Ravello`s main attractions such as the medieval Duomo, its interesting museum, and the infamous Villa Rufolo, one of the 2 garden estates in the village, for which Ravello is well known. Villa Rufolo, with its Moorish cloisters, exotic Mediterranean flora and vista terraces, is also host to one of Italy`s premier open-air music festivals which runs from April to October. If you are fond of archaeology, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum are easily within reach, and, of course, Amalfi Coast and Neapolitan Riviera as well. How to get there There are many ways for how to arrive in Ravello, but it can be a little complicated for first time visitors. Knowing the options and making your travel plans in advance will start your trip to Ravello off on the right foot. From Naples Airport Ravello is about an hour drive from Naples Capodichino airport. The easiest (and least stressful!) way to reach any destination on the Amalfi Coast from the Naples airport or train station is to hire a taxi for a private transfer. While it might seem an extravagant expense, the advantages far outweigh the cost. Driving in the Naples area and on the Amalfi Coast road is highly stressful at best. Since public transportation on the Amalfi Coast is easy to use and affordable and parking is expensive and very limited, renting a car is not recommended in general. However, taking public transportation from Naples to Ravello can be complicated for first time visitors. Arranging for a private transfer reduces the stress of arriving on the Amalfi Coast, and eliminates the expenses and difficulties of driving in the area. Ask us for quotation. Once at the property you can get around fine without the car as parking in the towns is hard to come by and expensive. Public Buses operate year-around connecting Ravello to Amalfi, where are buses to all the Amalfi Coast villages and Sorrento area. Ferries (from May to October) operate a service between Amalfi - Positano - Sorrento - Capri Island - Naples and Salerno.
