Located on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne just a few miles off the Northumberland coastline, Britannia Cottage is perfect for relaxing, dog friendly retreats. Dating back to the early 1800s, this charming property has been lovingly transformed into a welcoming holiday home. Whether you’re travelling with friends or planning a family holiday, Britannia Cottage will tick all of the right boxes. Rich with unspoilt beaches, walks, castles and wildlife, this tranquil home will provide a perfect base for you to explore the island and the Northumberland coast. The Space: Britannia Cottage has a cosy living room with an open fire and exposed beams. The ideal place to retreat to after a day of exploring, you can light the fire and snuggle up on the sofa with your loved ones. Turn on the flat screen TV to keep up with your favourite shows or pop on a DVD for a family film night. You’ll also have access to Amazon Prime and Netflix so you can sign in if you have an account. Also sharing this space is the dining area. The perfect spot to socialise, you can enjoy family breakfasts or evening meals with friends here. Head up the step and you’ll be welcomed into the kitchen. Fully equipped with everything you could need for your self-catering stay, you’ll have full use of the oven, hob, microwave, toaster and kettle. There is also a washing machine, dryer and dishwasher for your convenience. Take the stairs up to the first floor and you’ll find two spacious bedrooms along with the family bathroom. The master en suite bedroom boasts a comfortable King size bed and the second room is a twin. Beautifully decorated, both rooms have a tranquil and traditional look. Outside you’ll find a patio area with outdoor seating. Start your day with a morning coffee or pop open a bottle of something bubbly as the sun goes down. It’s also perfect for al fresco dining - whether it’s lunch in the sun or an evening meal as the night draws in. Guest Access: Guests have access to the full property. The keys are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date. There is free on street parking outside of the property. Interaction with Guests: We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The Neighborhood: Britannia Cottage is located right in the centre of the Holy Island and within easy walking distance of local restaurants and cafes. Perfectly placed, youll have easy access to everything from the cottage. Just a few miles off the Northumberland coast and cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world due to the fast-moving tides of the North Sea, the island has a truly magical feel. Occasionally grey seals can be seen sunning themselves on the coastline or bobbing through the waters. If you’d like unspoilt sandy shores, head to Coves Haven beach on the northern side of Holy Island. High sand dunes and steep cliffs shelter this small, remote beach making it the perfect spot to relax. Rising from the rock face, you can’t miss Lindisfarne Castle which was originally built in 1550 as a fort to defend the harbour. Restored back in 2017, you can visit the castle today to take in the outstanding architecture, history and views. With plenty of landscapes to discover, Lindisfarne is very popular with walkers. It is even the final destination of St Cuthbert’s Way, one of Scotland’s Great Trails. There is an array of wildlife throughout the island, from the mudflats to the dunes which together form the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve. You’ll find a whole host of different bird breeds such as the pale-bellied brent geese bar-tailed godwits. Getting Around: Britannia Cottage is within walking distance of all that Holy Island has to offer and just a few miles from the main Northumberland coast. The easiest way to travel to Holy Island is by car but there is a 477 bus service from Berwick-upon-Tweed which travels to the island with a return trip later in the day. There is a train station in Berwick-upon-Tweed with regular services to Newcastle and Edinburgh as well as London Kings Cross. Berwick-upon-Tweed is within 45 minutes’ drive time of other popular Northumberland destinations such as Alnwick, Alnmouth, Seahouses and Bamburgh so it’s perfectly located for exploring. There are also a number of bus routes through the town. Hop on the X15 Arriva bus which travels to Newcastle and has stops in Belford, Alnwick and Morpeth. If you’d like to visit Craster, Seahouses, Bamburgh, Amble or Alnmouth, the X18 Arriva bus will take you there.
