Go beyond the tourist eye: A collection of nine villas owned by a Cretan couple who are looking forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of Crete. The Retreat Village is situated high up on the slope of mountain "Drapanokefala", on the outskirts of "Kokkino Chorio" village (Zorba the Greek was filmed here). It has an astonishing view over Souda Bay and the Aegean sea, and this explains the existence of the St Georges Retreat cave built by the German forces during the II WW, which is actually within the grounds of the complex. The village of Kokkino Chorio is 5 minutes drive away while Plaka and Almyrida villages are a further 5 minutes drive each, while the city of Chania is 29 Km away (40 minutes drive). The grounds are extensive and contain a large variety of fruit trees and herbs which guests are invited to use. There are two 40m2 shared pools with extensive patio areas. Each patio area has ample sun loungers and towel space, as well as areas of natural shade to provide a respite from the sun while still enjoying the pool. There is a large BBQ area containing both a BBQ spit and traditional baking oven, seating areas and areas of shade. For the kids, we have just put up a new playground to keep them happy and make their holidays unforgettable. The complex also has a wine press. If the grapes this year are good enough we will probably organize a feast to celebrate the process of wine making. On top of the villas and within the complex boundary there are the German watch tower and the entrance to the bunker that was built during the II World War, while just out of the boundary there is St. Georges church and the remains of other military facilities that was used during the German occupation. Both sites are worth exploring.
