This villa in Languedoc has a rich and storied history - built as a monastery in the 16th century, it is now a portal to gorgeous family holidays. If you have a love for simpler times, the wide stone walls of the house will speak to you. Thats not to say youll forgo modern comforts here - the swimming pool on the stone terrace outside lends a private resort air. Here the architecture elevates this 4 bedroom family villa to something special. From the ancient stone stairs to the stained glass window in the bathroom, this home has character to spare. The living room feels almost like an underground cavern; the low, arched ceiling makes a snug family movie night. Nestled between the Cevennes National Park and Provence, this holiday villa is a true rural escape in a quiet little village. Hikers will be most at home, and local caverns may interest the whole family (try Grottes de Trabuc, 45 minutes from the villa). The closest quaint town is a drive away - Salindres (8km). If youre aching for more metropolitan delights, head to Uzes (30km), where you can find beautiful restaurants and shopping (look for the market on Wednesdays and Saturdays). #### Features Interior of House Ground Floor - Sitting room - Dining room - Kitchen First floor (via stone staircase) - Double bedroom - Small double bedroom - Bathroom with antique tiles Second Floor (via stone staircase) - 1 x bedroom with a King-sized bed and a single bed - 1 x small double bedroom - Shower room Outside Grounds - Swimming pool (15m length, depth approx 80cm-2m10), fenced off - Gardens (including one of the oldest micocoulier trees in the region) - Pool house with WC, sink and fridge - Al-fresco dining terrace Facilities - Air-conditioning #### Location Nestled between the Cevennes National Park and Provence, this holiday home feels like a true rural escape in a quiet little village. You have spectacular views of the valley and Cevennes mountain range from the garden, pool and terrace, where you can enjoy some incredible sunsets. Every day in the village (except weekends) there is a little van that passes the village square for bread and croissants. There is also a little shop attached to a nearby campsite, about 3km away, which sells most groceries and bread/pastries and is open seven days a week, usually open from early April to early September. You can also drive to Salindres (8km) for a small supermarket and further to St. Ambroix (14km) or Ales (15km) for town facilities and larger supermarkets. Hikers will be most at home with hectares of wild garrigues/countryside around the village plus there is horse-riding, quad biking and a tree-top activity centre within half an hour by car. There are of course some wonderful towns and cities to explore in the area and beyond. Heading west, at the foot of the incredible Cevennes National Park, is the charming town of Anduze (30km) with its pretty shops in the medieval centre, specialising in local products such as pottery. Visit on a Thursday to experience market day or simply wander around the interesting historical town. Combine a visit to the nearby caves Grotte de Trabac (33km) and the Prafrance Bamboo Gardens (30km) with a ride on the magnificent steam train (open Easter to October) through the surrounding countryside. You may also wish to explore further afield such as the amazing Le Cirque de Navacelles (99km), a UNESCO world heritage site and a must-see spectacle of nature. Just 30km south-east is the remarkable Uzes, undoubtedly one of the best preserved and restored medieval towns of France or head down to impressive Nimes (48km) with its stunning Roman architecture and UNESCO world heritage site Le Pont du Gard (44km). Further Provencal highlights include Van Goghs precious Arles (80km), beautiful Avignon (70km) or further south to some of the idyllic villages of Les Apilles National Park such as St-Remy-de-Provence (92km) and Les Baux-de-Provence (100km).
