There are a few restaurants and the magnificent beach but just up the road you will find the wonderful resort of Holetown. Holetown is home to the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre and the charming Chattle Village. Both offer excellent shopping opportunites. The Limegrove Lifestyle Centre is very glossy and exclusive with top brand names. It also has many restaurants, cinemas and special events. The shops at the Chattle Village are renovated Chattle homes, all painted in bright and cheerful colours. You can buy clothes, jewellery and souvenirs. It is a very pretty place to shop. Holetown was the site of the first British landing in Barbados in 1625 and the first settlement by the British two years later. The Holetown Monument commemorates the landing. There is also lots of good snorkeling in the mellow waters and reefs at Holetown Beach. There is a lot of history to discover in Barbados, not just in Holetown and the Bridgetown capital but all over the island. You can visit some amazing historical places including the Gun Hill Signal Station, George Washington House and the Parliament Buildings as well as the incredible plantation houses. You will learn about the plantation slavery economy. Although you have a chef at your villa, you will no doubt want to taste some of the delicious cuisine. There are some incredible, upmarket, fine dining restaurants but also more informal places to eat. The many cultures that have explored, colonized and enjoyed the island have brought their own distinct flavours. The National dish of Barbados is cou-cou and flying fish, consisting of cornmeal grain and fresh okra, together with savoury, stewed flying fish flavoured with onion, garlic, thyme, tomatoes and pepper. You will be offered many rum based cocktails such as felernum which combines sugar, amaretto, rum and lime juice into a delicious taste explosion. Mauby is a non-alcoholic alternative made from the juice of boiled bark! Sports enthusiasts will be very happy to watch some polo, horse racing and play some golf.
